David Bogie and Barney Mitchell head a big entry for this weekend’s McDonald & Munro Speyside Stages and no doubt will be hell bent on making up lost points after finishing third on the Snowman with the MINI WRC. The pace was there but a hidden rock was also there and a severe dunt in one stage bent the suspension.
Hell bent on ensuring they don’t will be Snowman victors Michael Binnie and Claire Mole. The Lancer certainly had the measure of the R5 brigade on a snow-less Snowman with Impreza mounted Jock Armstrong and Cameron Fair also getting in on the action finishing second on the Snowman behind Binnie with Bogie in third place.
Freddie Milne and Patrick Walsh will be hoping that the Fiesta R5’s electrics will be a tad more reliable this weekend, because had it not been for a sudden mid stage cut-out, who knows where they might have finished?
Proving that the Lancers were up for the job were Scott MacBeth/Daniel Forsyth and Scott Beattie/Paula Swinscoe who finished 5th and 6th.
All of the above are in the top ten this weekend plus Bruce McCombie in the Focus WRC, John Wink in the i20 R5, Mark McCulloch hoping to have fixed the Proton’s heatshield and the rapid David Henderson from County Durham making a visit to the even further north in his Fiesta R5!
However, they’ll all have to keep a wary eye on what’s following on behind as there is more stuff looking for a top ten finish. Also, keep a look out for a couple of other interesting entries – Keith Robathan has a new car and it’s not a Ford or a BMW while making a welcome return to rallying after some 20 years or so is former Formula Ka Champion and Peugeot 206 Cup winner Jack Ingleby but in something rather different, a 5.7 litre Ford Mustang – that’ll be worth a look and a listen.
