Knockhill Stages, Sunday 8th December 2019
The final stage rally of the Scottish season will take place this Sunday 8th December at Knockhill. It’s also the third round of the 2019 Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship so our lot will be up against a number of marauding visitors. It’s not a huge entry, with just over 50 cars at present, but the quality is there plus a few interesting extras.
John Marshall will have his first run out in one of these new Skodaru thingys. It’s a Skoda Fabia car with Subaru engine and running gear. Drew Gallagher had one out on the Jim Clark and the TEG Sport built machine does appear to go well, so we’ll see this weekend. Brian Watson will have a new ‘co-driver’ this weekend but it’s not the one we were expecting. Gordon Morrison was down to do it having lost a bet somewhere along the way whereby he was to navigate for Brian if he lost and Brian would navigate for him if he won. You’d think at their age they’d take their sport a wee bit more seriously, eh? Anyway, Gordon realised it clashed with a motocross event this weekend so he did a bodyswerve and in his place will be a mystery ‘guest’ co-driver. So don’t be at all surprised if you see Eddie Kelly wandering around looking bemused and without his cameras – instead clutching Stage Diagrams and Time Cards! That’s if he doesn’t chicken out. It will also be interesting to see how Kyle Adam goes this weekend as he gets his first taste of Millington power having replaced the title and class winning 1600 lump from this year’s Scottish Tarmack series with the new power unit. There might also be an entry from Freddie Milne in a Fiesta R5 depending on how he gets on at Saturday’s Grizedale Stages and also depending on him arriving in the UK from his new US base in the first place. Is it just me, or is it purely coincidence that he and Donald Trump will be in the UK at the same time? Do you think we should be told?
Te first of 8 stages will get underway at 9.00 am depending on weather conditions. We’re not expecting snow but it could be misty. There are 34 miles of stages and they will be run at 30 second intervals so it should be good craic.
