11 Jun: Crail Summer Stages Prevu

… Summer Sages Rally, Crail, Sat 15th June …

With 4 rounds gone in this year’s Cobble Shop Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship, Colin Gemmell tops the points tables in his Mk2, but by only 2 points. Sharing second place are Kyle Adam and Michael Robertson. A further 9 points behind is Willie Paterson followed by Alan Wallace and Graeme Rintoul. But here’s the thing, holding 9th place overall is perhaps the most standard car of the lot, Stuart Waite’s Peugeot 206 which he drives to and from each round of the series!

On that basis there is much to see this weekend at Round 5 which takes place this Saturday at Crail and spectators are welcome. Makes a change, eh? Anyway, for those who do turn up to watch they are in for a treat. The top 20 is the best this year.

Andrew Kirkaldy will be hoping to make amends from his Granite Rally outing when the Escort let him down while the Lotus Exige of Alistair Inglis is behaving itself a lot better this season. Two maximum points scores from two finishes proves it. The Subarus of John Marshall and ‘The Sheriff’ are due to make an appearance at number 3 and 4, and John Rintoul will wheel out his R5 at number 5. There’s no number 6 in the entry list so maybe we’re in for a surprise on Saturday!

The ‘Senior’ Rally will get underway at 08.30 Hrs with the first of 5 stages totalling some 57 miles of stages while the ‘Junior 1000’ event will start at 14:15 Hrs with its own 5 stages totalling 49 miles. All we need now is the weather – tee shirts or padded jackets?
