25 May: Granite Stages Entry List

… Granite Stages at Leuchars, Sat 26 May …

This Saturday’s Granite Stages Rally at Leuchars is a lock-in, i.e. a non spectator event. Which is a pity, because the Entry List looks pretty good.

Alan Kirkaldy heads the list in his Mk2 with Gordon Morrison right behind him in the Subaru. Alistair Inglis wheels out the Lotus again at number 3 while Ian Forgan will use his Hyundai this weekend. John Rintoul should be worth a shout too, now that he is getting some reliability into the hybrid Fiesta and no doubt Ian Paterson will be up there too although there are some ‘power’ stretches at Leuchars which will suit the bigger cars.

Alan Gardiner runs at 7 in his awfy rapid Mk1 while Tom Morris will again have four wheel drive at his disposal, but not the Metro, he’s trying a Millington Fabia. Rounding off the top ten is Colin Gemmell fresh from his 2nd place o/a at the recent event at MIRA down south. Just outside the top ten, Brian Watson is still learning his new Subaru WRC and running at 12 is former Scottish champ Jimmy Christie in the first of the day’s Lancers.

There’s a full house of 13 Juniors too and they are always worth a watch – and a listen. I say ‘listen’ because even when they are out of sight, listening to them provides a good insight into how the youngsters are doing. Some of them stay on the throttle absolutely flat-out for longer than I would dare!

The first car is due to start at 08.30 hrs with the ‘Seniors’ contesting 10 stages totalling 55 miles while the Juniors will have 11 stages and 42 miles of tests all within the Army Base perimeter.

Remember, the only way to see this event is if you are competing, servicing, officiating or marshalling – so you know what to do!
