22 Feb: Knockhill Stages Entry List

… Grant Construction Stages Rally, Sunday 25th Feb …

The top 12 on this Sunday’s Grant Construction Stages Rally at Knockhill looks particularly tasty with any one of them capable of victory. However, John Marshall already has a race on his hands – to get ready.

Last weekend at the 5th round of the Motor Sport News Circuit Rally Championship at Snetterton, the red and white Subaru was on the case setting top six times after 2 stages till it suffered an underbonnet fire, so there was work to be done. Tom Blackwood didn’t fare any better, retiring after 4 stages with a troublesome gearbox.

If they are ready in time they will line up against the like of Donnie MacDonald fresh from his 3rd place on the Snowman Rally, but that was in the Fiesta, and he will be back at the wheel of his Evo9. British Championship regular David Hardie will have an interesting day out too as he has Mark McCulloch (!) riding shotgun. Gordon Morrison was getting quicker all year last season and no-one can discount past Knockhill winner, Michael Glendinning.

And if former Scottish Tarmack Champ John Rintoul can get a clean run with his so-far troublesome Fiesta then he too could be in with a shout. Behind him, the Galloway contingent will be bolstered by the appearance of Ian Paterson and Lee Hastings. James Gibb and Stuart Baillie, first time out for a couple of years, round off the top ten but it will be interesting to see how the Number 11 seed Iain Wilson gets on. Having started rallying with a FWD Nova and more recently a 4WD Subaru he will have his first run out this weekend in a RWD Escort Mk2, but Colin Gemmell might have other ideas running at 12. He appeared with a glorious looking Mk2 last year and quickly got the hang of the beast.

Border Ecosse Car Club are responsible for this opening round of the 2018 Cobble Shop Scottish Tarmack Championship opener and there will be 8 stages. First car leaves the Start line at 9am on Sunday morning with adult admission £10 in advance or £12 at the gate. Concession tickets are £8 and under 12s free of charge.
