… Grampian Forest Rally , Sat 12th Aug …
The penultimate rounds of this year’s ARR Craib Scottish Championship gets underway this Saturday 12th August at Milton of Crathes just outside Banchory.
The Grampian Forest Rally will feature 6 Special Stages and will start from Crathes Castle on Saturday morning, first car away at 09.00 Hrs.
The Survivors are expected to return to Crathes Castle from 15.30 Hrs onwards with the victory champagne bottle shoogling expected to take place shortly after 16.00 Hrs.
Tell you what though, this late in the season you’d expect entries to fall away, not this weekend. What a top ten, what a top 20. Bogie, Thorburn, Armstrong, Sinclair and Faulkner will be joined by Cumbria’s Paul Bird back out in his Focus after two years away from the sport. But don’t let that fool you. Bird was quick back then and he’ll be quick this weekend, but can he match the Scots on home soil?
Then there’s top local hope, Bruce McCombie who could walk from his hoose to the rally, without getting out of breath (and his Maw bakes exceedingly good cakes!), Mark McCulloch who scored that sensational win last weekend at Solway, Quintin Milne who is about as unpredictable as a hand grenade with a loose pin, and he’s got WRC Subaru, and rounding off the top ten is Donnie MacDonald back behind the wheel of his Lancer.
Outside the top ten, the predictions don’t stop with Freddie Milne now in a WRC Subaru as well, Barry Groundwater in his Evo10, plus the fast improving Scott McCombie and Iain Wilson. And here’s another squib to throw into the banger box, John Wink has got himself a Hyundai R5. He was quick before, how will he fare first time out in his new machine this weekend. I can’t wait to find out.

Scrutineering will take place at Milton of Crathes on the Friday evening while the Rally Service Park will be there on the Saturday. During the day at Crathes Castle there will be a show of interesting and classic cars including displays by Ford RS Owners Club and Buchan Off Road Drivers Club.
Spectator Info
There are two Spectator Areas in the forests, in Durris and Fetteresso and, since these stages will be run twice take a picnic box and just sitback and watch the action without having to tear about the countryside.
