… Coltel Grampian Stages Rally, Saturday 13th August …
Last year, the north eastern round of the Scottish Rally Championship featured an epic duel between Dave Weston Jnr and David Bogie. Victory was determined by the application of the tie-decider as they dead-heated on finishing times. Dave clinched it and David didn’t. With a bit of luck it could be even closer this weekend, although the venue and one of the rivals will be different. Apart from that it will be exactly the same!
This time ‘the boy’ Dave will be up against another former Scottish Rally Champion, Euan Thorburn while the venue is different too, it has moved slightly south to Milton of Crathes. Not only that, throw the likes of Jock Armstrong, Mike Faulkner, Garry Pearson and John MacCrone into the mix and it will be a foolhardy pundit who makes any firm prediction on that lot.
And there’s more, Mark McCulloch will head north fresh from his fourth victory in a row on the Solway Coast plus three local drivers will all want to show well – Bruce McCombie, Barry Groundwater and Freddie Milne. And what about the great outsider, Shaun Sinclair? If the big black beastie behaves itself, Shaun could be on a winner too.

SS2 (09.33 Hrs) and SS6 Durris (14.12 Hrs) – Access from unnamed road from Kirkton of Durris / Woodland to Post 6, just off the A957 ‘Slug Road’, 8 miles north west of Stonehaven. Viewing at new area at Post 5 provided by the Forestry Commission. WC facilities provided.
And it goes without saying, park responsibly and safely and take your litte home for proper disposal – Dinnae drap it!
