… McDonald & Munro Speyside Stages Rally, Sat 1st August …
63 Car Club have a pretty good entry of almost 100 cars for Saturday’s McDonald & Munro Speyside Stages Rally based at Elgin. David Bogie heads the entry list from Jock Armstrong and Mike Faulkner. Donnie MacDonald runs at 4 and current ARR Craib Championship points leader Bruce McCombie fills the number 5 slot with Quintin Milne behind him.
Dougal Brown should be debuting his new Ford Escort Mk2 in place of his Lancer while Alasdair Graham is moving up to the world of all wheel drive having spent the last year or more in his garage building a Lancer to replace his Vauxhall Corsa. James Gibb is also hoping to debut his brand new Ford Fiestevo having driven Andrew Gallacher’s car on the Scottish before taking delivery of his own AG built machine.
Rally Start: 08.58 Hrs, Cooper Park, Elgin
Rally Finish: From 16:15 Hrs, Moray College UHI, Moray Street, Elgin
Spectating is very limited this year, not so much due to the new safety requirements, but it has more to do with PR sensitive areas and ease of access issues. On that basis the organisers have made provisions for spectators at SS4 (from 10.55 Hrs) and SS8 (from 14:35 Hrs). Follow the ‘green spectator arrows’ from the A96 just to the east of Huntly. The Car Park is being run by Gartly School PTA with a £3 charge per car.
So if you go to Cooper Park in the centre of Elgin for 9:00am, then to the woods you’ll get to see three stages. Not ideal, but better than nowt. Rallying is living in strange times at present.
