12 Jun: Summer Stages entry list

… Crail Summer Stages …

Glenrothes Motor Sport Club has received a full entry plus reserves for its Summer Sages Rally, the latest round in the Blackwood Plant Hire Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship. There are 8 stages totalling some 55 miles on offer and with 30 second starts, it should keep the action coming fast and furious all day.

John Rintoul heads the entry in his Hyundai from DCC Stages winner Bruce Edwards in the Darrian while Tom Morris runs at three in his Metro ahead of Ingliston runner-up Nigel Feeney in the Subaru, and remember he was well in the hunt till the final stage when the rear suspension failed.

Former Tarmack Champ Ross Fernie runs at 4 in his Subaru ahead of Colin Gemmell who shook down his new car at Ingliston six weeks ago and finished third. Loved by tyre manufacturers everywhere, Gary Adam runs at seven in his wheel spinning Escort with Stuart Baillie getting back to full fitness after a prolonged hospital visit and just raring to go .

An unlikely choice for rallying is the Lotus Exige of Alistair Inglis but when asked at Ingliston if things were getting better a wry smile from Alistair and a knowing wink suggested they are. Rounding off the top ten is Ian Paterson in his Subaru, but right behind him are Ross Marshal and John Paterson both serial tyre smokers, like Gary, with Bob Grant and Lee Hastings right behind, and neither of whom is renowned for going slow. This event also sees the return of Jamie Smith in his latest rally weapon, a 3 litre Ford Fiesta!

The fun gets underway at 8.00 am on Saturday morning with the Junior rallyists doing half the stages and their first run is at 10.15 am.

And remember, this is Crail so bring your shades and sun cream – as well as brolly and wellies!
