08 Dec: McRae Festival for Knockhill

2015 McRae Rally Festival at Knockhill …

Next year, Knockhill Racing Circuit will mark the 20th anniversary of Scotland’s Colin McRae and Derek Ringer winning the 1995 World Rally Championship title.

Over two days in May, Saturday and Sunday the 16th and 17th, rally fans can gather at the Fife circuit to remember and pay tribute to Britain’s first ever outright World Rally Champions. It wasn’t just the blunt opinions, often delivered with a deadpan Lanarkshire humour, that endeared McRae to his followers. His no-compromise, committed driving style had a much wider appeal, enthralling and exciting fans, not just in this country, but right across the globe.

Driving will therefore play a big part of next year’s planned motor rallying festival with the Knockhill Circuit hosting three quite different rally challenges during the weekend.

Using Knockhill’s extensive circuit facilities, a series of three different events will be run over two days, one for competitors in the Ecosse Junior Rally Championship, one for invited current rally drivers and their cars, and another for Historic rally cars – in which Jim McRae will play a starring role!

The inclusion of a Junior Challenge is quite poignant as Colin McRae was an enthusiastic supporter of this introductory formula to rallying for 14 to 17 year olds, something which his Dad Jim continues to this day.

A number of additional events and attractions are planned for this unique event. These will include a collection of competition cars driven by Colin McRae in his British and World title winning years. From his first competition car, an autotesting Mini, to his own pet project, the McRae R4, the display will highlight McRae’s passion for all things automotive.

Further plans will be announced at the Autosport International Show at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham next month which runs over four days from Thursday 8th January to Sunday 11th.

To launch this unique event, Knockhill Racing Circuit will be represented at the Autosport Show for the first time and will exhibit Colin and Derek’s 1995 title winning Prodrive Subaru Impreza.

It’s also worth pointing out that for those who purchase, or are given a present of a 2015 Knockhill Season Pass, will be entitled to attend both days of next year’s gathering.
