12 Sep: Mystery Guest for McRae?

… McRae Rally Plans Finalised ….

With less than 3 weeks to go, Coltness Car Club have now completed the final ‘recce’ for the route of this year’s Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally which will once again be based in Aberfeldy in the heart of Perthshire on Saturday 4th October.

Following the successful conclusion of last weekend’s GWF Energy Merrick Stages Rally in south west Scotland, competitors in the 2014 ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship are now gearing themselves up for the penultimate round of Scotland’s top national motor sporting championship.

And it’s worth noting that with 6 rounds gone of the 8 round 2014 championship series, Euan Thorburn from Duns and David Bogie from Dumfries have each scored three victories, so it’s all square as the top two contenders head north to do battle in the central highlands.

This year there will be six Special Stages, all on Forestry Commission property, using the notoriously winding and hilly gravel roads for which the Perthshire forests are renowned.

The rally will start from the centre of Aberfeldy, with the first car being flagged off at 8.00 am and the first of the survivors returning mid afternoon.

Coltness Car Club’s rally route team have also been keeping an eye out for suitable Spectator points where fans and followers can have relatively easy access to the stages with adequate car parking, and this will be publicised in due course.

Once again the Colin McRae Rally organisers are planning something different. On the Friday night before the rally, there will be a star guest ‘Rally Forum’ show at Rally HQ in the Breadalbane Community Campus in the centre of Aberfeldy. Top drivers will be quizzed about their career, hopes and ambitions and will include one rather special guest.

Last year, visiting guests included Scotland’s most successful Olympian Sir Chris Hoy, Skeleton ‘Gold’ winning Olympian Amy Williams, Sky TV F1 reporter Tony Jardine, Colin McRae’s former World Championship winning co-driver, Derek Ringer, and five times British Rally Champion Jim McRae.

As yet lips remain tightly closed regarding the identity of this year’s star guest – but he’s not a rally driver. More information will follow soon …
