02 Apr: DCC Stages Preview

… DCC Stages 2014, Sat. Apr. 5 …
… Rd 2 – BLUE Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship …

The entry list for this weekend’s second round of the BLUE Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship was full just a few days after it opened and that is reflected in a full-house of 90 cars (the maximum they can accommodate) for this Saturday’s DCC Stages.

Heading the entry list is ‘Guy Fawkes’ Runcie (there’s always fireworks when he’s in a car) with former Scottish Champ Ross Fernie at number 2. The eagle eyed amongst you, and those who don’t know any better, will naturally query the sense of a 1600cc FWD car being placed ahead of a 2 litre turbo all wheel drive car, but that’s a measure of Runcie’s prowess. Even Bruce Edwards in the motorised Tupperware GT and Tom Morris in his glorious MkII will be hard pressed to catch the French tinwork.

Running at five is Stuart Baillie who has been setting some impressive times over the past two seasons, when the Subaru lets him, and the current Champ Ian Forgan runs at six in the 2 litre Ka. It may lack the punch of the bigger cars, but at Ingliston the emphasis is on agility and handling so expect Forgy to be up there at the finish.

Breathing don his neck will be the MkII of former Scottish Rally Champion Gary Adam with the effervescent Alistair Inglis behind him in the Evo. A volatile mix these two, especially when the competition gets heated. Rounding off the top ten are Darren Doherty and Stuart Walker. While running at number 19 is Barry Lindsay in the wee Peugeot. If it rains on Saturday, he could spring a surprise. He only knows one speed – flat out, whether its dry, raining or snowing.

But if anyone wants to go spectating, you CANNOT. Due to insurance reasons, no spectators are allowed. However, if you Marshal at the event, you can get all the spectating done that you want and maybe even we wee bit of car pushing and stage repairing every now and again. Full details of how to become a volunteer on Dunfermline Car Club’s website. But who knows, they might even have a full entry for that too!

After the first round of this year’s series at Knockhill a couple of months back, Paul Ballantyne leads the BLUE Scottish Championship on 24 points from Stuart Walker (23) and Craig Gibson (21). Steven Hay is fourth equal with Lee Hastings and Iain Wilson all on 20 points, ahead of Gordon Halley and Gary Adam next equal on 19 points, with Ian Forgan and Gerry Gaffney sharing 18.

So, for the moment, it’s all pretty tight at the top, but with a full entry this weekend, that is all set to change. Just remember, unless you’re officiating, there is no spectator/general public access to the Ingliston site.
