13 May: MacCrone up for Challenge

… MacCrone for McRae Challenge …

Fingers crossed. Things are looking up for one of Scotland’s brightest young rally stars, John MacCrone . We’ll see him this weekend at the McRae Rally Challenge in his new Ford Fiesta R5. With support from Richard Moore and sponsorship from Colin M Smith, Strathtay Potato Company, TCCL, GS Robertson, and newcomers Oilfast and Watermans, the team is hoping to put a programme together this weekend.

Oilfast are the fastest growing fuel Company in Scotland so felt a natural synergy with John’s quest for success. Delivering fuel oils all across Scotland, supplying kerosene heating oil, gas oil and road diesel to homes and businesses all year round, Oilfast believe that excellent service is paramount to success. Combine this with first class local knowledge and competitive prices and that is what makes Oilfast the natural choice for domestic and commercial fuel oil and lubricant needs.

Oilfast Area Director Jackie Scott said: “Oilfast are delighted to support such a young, bright, Scottish talent and are excited by the prospect of our brand being a part of John’s bid for success. The Oilfast brand fits perfectly with rallying in general and teaming up with a Scottish driver striving for success in particular.”

While John added: “The logo on the car looks awesome! Oilfast offer prompt and reliable delivery all around Scotland and continue to grow from strength to strength. Our rally car provides them with a way of showing that they have no intention of slowing down any time soon.”

In addition to financial support from Watermans Accident Claims and Care, one of Scotland’s leading personal injury firms, John is to become a road safety ambassador.

It’s a perfect partnership, as Watermans deals with the aftermath of serious traffic accidents in order to help clients on the road to recovery, and its decision to team up with MacCrone, a former FIA WRC Academy and MSA Team UK driver, underlines the company’s desire to promote safe driving.

Scott Whyte, Managing Director of Watermans Accident Claims and Care, said: “Watermans is proud to support young sporting talent, and it’s great to be able to help a gifted driver like John MacCrone to show what he can do on such a big stage. Given that we deal with aftermath of serious road traffic accidents on a daily basis we are always keen to promote safe driving wherever possible, and John is an ideal ambassador to spread the message that drivers of all ages can’t treat roads like rally stages. As well as supporting John we also feel privileged to be involved in the McRae Challenge, it is shaping up to be a spectacular event and a fitting tribute to the achievements of a Scottish motorsport icon.”

John MacCrone said: “Thanks to Scott at Watermans, we are now working together to promote safe driving on the public roads. Watermans is a company I’m delighted to be associated with and I hope we can deliver them a nice result at the McRae Rally Challenge. Scott had a spin in the car last year so knows exactly what the sport and flat out driving – in a controlled environment – is all about.”

This weekend John will team up with brother Alisdair and with all the sponsors on hand a programme of events mapped out, although initially, John has Rally Germany in his sights in August.
