Quality Entry for Solway Coast …
The organisers of this weekend’s two day festival of rallying on the sun-kissed Costa del Solway are delighted with the quality and quantity of entries. Over 60 top club crews for the senior usedcarparts.co.uk Solway Coast Rally on Saturday and nearly 30 Juniors (14 to 17 year olds) for the Sunday event.
Although this is MOD property, spectators are allowed, but be careful. Car parking is available from the ‘Girdstingwood’ junction on the A711 one mile south of Dunmdrennan village. When you turn off the main road, look for the green arrow pointing to the right. There is no car parking available at the Girdstingwood Camp HQ where the service crews will be setting up camp. There is another possible viewing area on the west side of the Dundrennan ranges at what the locals call ‘Dunrod Crossroads’ – just don’t expect to find it on AARoute.com!
Spectators and fans will be welcome at the MOD canteen at Girdstingwood HQ which will be open for the provision of hale and hearty sustenance (at awfy reasonable prices) and tickets for the Saturday night BBQ are £7 – and there will be a bar!
However, it is to be hoped that a repeat of last year’s early hours Sunday morning 4.00 am tea-tray ‘slippy grass cresta run’ will be avoided. Have you ever tried treating grass burns in the dark?
The Seniors will face 10 stages on Saturday totalling 56 miles with the first car away at 09:01 Hrs from Girdstingwood Rally HQ.
On Sunday, the Juniors also have 10 stages, but totalling a slightly less 38 miles, with the first car due to set off from Girdstingwood Rally HQ at 09:01 Hrs.
